Geographical information

The Russian Federation is a sovereign state in Eastern Europe and Northern Asia. Its population numbers 146,519,759 people and the territory spans over 17,125,407 km2. The capital of the state is Moscow with a population over 8 mln people. St.Petersburg is the second largest and important city with a population over 5 mln people. It is a large industrial, cultural, scientific and educational center in the Russian Federation.

St. Petersburg located in the Northwest of the Russian Federation. It, spanning the banks of the Neva River, is one of the most beautiful European cities and its architectural ensembles of the Hermitage, Russian Museum, St. Peter and Paul Fortress, St. Isaac Cathedral are on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Climate

St. Petersburg is the largest northern city in the world and located at 60 N. July is one of the warmest months in St. Petersburg. The average temperature is 18 C° – 20 C° (64.4 °F − 68 °F). July is famous for its long summer daylight hours, the sun hardly sets at all and this period has become known as the 'White Nights'. Hot sunny days are not rare, but you never know when it is going to rain. It is wise to bring your umbrella and a windproof raincoat or jacket.

Currency

The national currency of Russian Federation is Ruble (Новый символ российского рубля). Major foreign currencies can be exchanged at the airport, hotels, banks or other exchange offices  located in the city. It is recommended to specify the exchange rate before your departure to Russia

Language

Official language of Russian Federation is Russian.

The working language of the Conference is English.

Translation into English will be provided during all tours officially announced in the Conference program.

 When walking around the city in your free time, it may be problematic to find an English speaking adult Russian. The knowledge of European languages, especially English, is more common among young people.

Power supply

220 Volt and 50 Hz AC current supplies are used in Russia. Most of the sockets are standard European-size for double round-pin plugs.

How to get to the Hotel Park Inn by Radisson Pulkovskaya:

1. The Conference Secretariat arranges Complimentary transfers between the Pulkovo International airport and the Hotel Park Inn Pulkovskaya for those who book this hotel. Please, fill in the Transfer Booking Form and send it to secr@oats2016.org. The Transfer desk is located in the Arrivals hall on the first floor of the Terminal. Please inform the staff on the Transfer desk that you are participant of the International Oat Conference and they will arrange you the appropriate free taxi.

2. A Complimentary shuttle service from/to the airport is also provided by the Hotel Park Inn Pulkovskaya. You can download the Shuttle Bus Schedule here.

3. Taxi from Airport to Hotel. City taxi counters are located in the Arrivals hall on the first floor of the Terminal. You can pay for your taxi by credit card at the taxi counter, or by cash to the driver at the end of a ride. The fixed fare: 1000 . Time to destination: 20 minutes in normal traffic conditions.

4. Participants who arrive by train, are advised to get to the Park Inn Pulkovskaya Hotel by city taxi at their own expense.
